Lindsay Lohan has denied claims she intentionally flooded her ex-boyfriend Harry Morton’s apartment, because she insists she was out of town when the incident happened. Lohan, who lives above Morton’s Sierra Towers home in Hollywood, is being held responsible for the flood, which caused $150,000 worth of damage to the apartment. The security staff at the apartment complex claim they gained entry to Lohan’s vacant apartment last month after Morton reported the flood, and found “water overflowing in the bathtub.” In his report, the security officer wrote, “It seems that they left the faucet on. I turned it off.” The incident report has left Lohan baffled because she claims she was in New York when the flood took place, even though video footage reportedly shows that she was partying in Los Angeles on the night in question.

Lopez & Anthony Suing
Jennifer Lopez and her husband, Marc Anthony, are suing the National Enquirer in European courts over the tabloid’s claims they were linked to a drug scandal, their Belfast lawyer said. Paul Tweed, who specializes in bringing U.S.-based celebrities’ libel cases to British and Irish courts, said Lopez and singer Anthony were seeking “a six-figure settlement” from the Enquirer, based in Boca Raton, Flaorida, and its parent company, American Media Inc. Tweed said the lawsuit would be filed in a Belfast court, and in subsequent days in courts in Dublin, London and Paris. The lawsuit also seeks an apology and retraction for an article that appeared in different versions of the Enquirer’s U.S. and international editions. The version published March 12 in British and Irish editions alleged the couple were “caught up in a heroin scandal” and reprinted a 2004 picture of Anthony standing beside photographer Michael Star, who is facing charges of heroin possession in the U.S. The article quoted an alleged friend of Star as saying Star and Anthony were friends. Tweed said, “This was untrue and that Anthony didn’t know Star even as an acquaintance.” Anthony posed for the 2004 photograph, Tweed said, “in keeping with his usual hospitality toward backstage concert fans.” There has been a growing trend in international libel suits brought by U.S.-based celebrities in European courts, where libel laws favor the celebrity, not the publication.”The First Amendment restrictions in U.S. libel law make it virtually impossible for international celebrities or other high-profile individuals to sue successfully,” Tweed said. “But with the advance of the Internet, and with U.S. publications now extending their distribution network into Europe, they must subject themselves to libel laws in these jurisdictions.”

Joan & Melissa Replaced
The TV Guide Channel has replaced veteran red carpet fashion mavens Joan and Melissa Rivers with Lisa Rinna. Rinna has signed a multi-year contract with the network, which will see the former ‘Dancing with the Stars’ contestant hosting five red carpet pre-shows and five fashion recap shows, beginning with the Emmy Awards in September. TV Guide says they chose Rinna because, “In addition to being an established TV star, she also has fashion expertise as both a business person and commentator, so she is a great fit for this role and for our brand.” Rinna owns two Los Angeles area boutiques called Belle Gray. The network released a statement saying, “TV Guide Channel is very appreciative of Joan and Melissa Rivers’ contributions to the success of our Red Carpet programming over the past three years. Appeals Court Rules
A lawsuit filed against ‘The Da Vinci Code’ author, Dan Brown has been thrown out of a London court after a judge ruled the writer did not steal plot ideas from other texts. Michael Baigent and Richard Leigh, two of the three authors of ‘The Holy Blood And The Holy Grail,’alleged Brown had reproduced themes from their 1982 novel and filed a subsequent lawsuit against Random House, the publisher of both books. Their original suit was dismissed in April 2006, when the London’s High Court ruled Brown had not plagiarized themes from the authors’ work. Baigent and Leigh now face legal bills of $5.85 million. In a statement released after the appeal’s rejection, they said, “We believed, and still do, that non-fiction authors would suffer and be discouraged from extensive research if it was found that any author could take another’s ideas, ‘morph’ and repackage them, then sell them on.” Gail Rebuck, head of Random House, hailed the ruling as a victory for “creative writing”. She says, “Misguided claims like the one that we have faced, and the appeal, are not good for authors, and not good for publishers. But we are glad that the Court of Appeal has upheld the original judgment and that, once again, common sense and justice have prevailed, helping to ensure the future of creative writing in the UK.” Published in 2003, ‘The Da Vinci Code’ has now sold more than 40 million copies worldwide. The 2006 movie starring Tom Hanks and Audrey Tautou has made over $750 million worldwide.

Stern Drops Appeal
Howard K. Stern dropped his bid to halt the use of DNA to prove the paternity of Anna Nicole Smith’s infant daughter when it appeared a Bahamas court was going to reject his appeal. An attorney for Stern withdrew the challenge in the face of skeptical questioning by a three-judge panel of the Court of Appeal. All three judges said Stern filed his challenge too late and should have raised his objections before the Supreme Court ordered DNA testing in the paternity challenge filed by Larry Birkhead, a former boyfriend of Smith’s who claims to be the father of the infant.Justice Emmanuel E. Osadebay noted that Stern himself had agreed to DNA testing and even suggested an expert to do the analysis, but waited until a week after the sample was taken to file the a challenge to the court’s decision.”His problem is that the person he wanted to do the testing was not the one selected by the court,” Osadebay said. In withdrawing the appeal, Stern agreed to pay $10,000 in legal costs incurred by Birkhead and the Bahamian government department in charge of birth certificates. Stern is listed on the birth certificate as the father of the baby who was born in the Bahamas in September. The child’s DNA was tested on March 21 but the results have not been revealed. The Supreme Court is scheduled to hold a hearing in the paternity case but the lawyers and officials are prohibited by Bahamian legal rules from discussing the case, even to reveal the nature of the hearing.
