A lawsuit has been filed by the husband of the woman killed in a car crash involving Brandy Norwood. It’s the second lawsuit she is facing regarding the accident. In the documents filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Marquane Hdidou claims that Brandy and another motorist named Mallory Ham were “recklessly and carelessly traveling too fast for conditions” and “following too closely” on the 405 Freeway, which caused the collision that killed his wife, Awatef Aboudihaj. As a result of his wife’s death, Hdidou claims in the lawsuit that he has, “forever been deprived the support and maintenance, services, guidance, companionship, comfort, affection, solace, moral support, society, care, love, consortium and other benefits” from his wife. Hdidou is suing for an undisclosed amount of financial relief to cover medical and funeral expenses, as well as legal costs and other damages. Brandy is also facing a $50 million lawsuit filed by the victim’s parents.

In the ruling, Judge Jose Alberto Montes said the statute of limitations has expired on the case, said Guillermo Diaz, assistant prosecutor in Puerto Vallarta. Bounty hunting is illegal in Mexico. State prosecutors want to continue pursuing Mexico’s request to have Chapman extradited, Diaz said. An employment tribunal ruled that Sting and his wife, Trudie Styler, discriminated against their chef by firing her after she became pregnant. The couple, who face having to make a substantial compensation payment, said they were “devastated” by the ruling. The level of compensation will be decided at a hearing. Chef Jane Martin said she had worked for Sting and Styler for eight years, cooking meals for them and guests at various locations. She said Styler grew unhappy after she became pregnant in 2005, making her work long hours and growing angry when she took time off work because of illness.Martin claimed that Styler created a “climate of fear” in which she was forced to work 14-hour days during some of the roughest points of her pregnancy. Martin, who accused Styler of having a “grandiose ego,” was fired under disputed circumstances in April 2006. In its ruling, the panel said Martin had been unlawfully dismissed and was a victim of sexual discrimination. The judgment said that although Styler “had tried to distance herself from various unlawful acts and have them carried out by others on her behalf, when the evidence is looked at holistically, her involvement is clear. She is without doubt the driving force manipulating others to perform her dirty work.”

Sting and his wife, Trudie Styler, were ordered to pay their former chef $51,000 in compensation after she won a sexual-discrimination claim against them. Jane Martin won her claim because she said she was fired after she became pregnant. An employment tribunal ordered Sting and Styler, to pay their former chef compensation after she won her claim against them. At a hearing earlier, Martin said she had worked for the couple for eight years, cooking meals for them and guests. Martin, who accused Styler of having a “grandiose ego,” left her job under disputed circumstances in April 2006. Hatch In Prison - 22 views

Richard Hatch, who won $1 million on ‘Survivor,’ says being in prison for failing to pay taxes on his TV prize and other income is difficult. Hatch, who became known as the “naked fat guy” for refusing to wear clothes for much of the show, was convicted last year. He was sentenced to 51 months in prison, and is at the Federal Correctional Institution in Morgantown, W.Va., a minimum security facility.”Obviously, this is better than the county lockup,” Hatch says. “There’s no fence here. But people think I’ve come to a country club. It’s not. This is prison. Just because it’s got a beautiful view of the countryside doesn’t make it a resort. And it’s horrendous because I’m an innocent man in jail.” Following his conviction, Hatch says he spent “six horrendous months” at the Plymouth County Correctional Facility in Plymouth, Mass. His lawyer, Michael Minns, has said Hatch deserves a new trial because a judge improperly kept him from testifying about claims of cheating on the show.”I don’t apologize for anything,” says Hatch, who said he is looking forward to returning to his home and family in Rhode Island. “I didn’t do anything wrong.” Hatch says he is “working on a book that I should have no trouble getting published. It begins with my auditioning for ‘Survivor’ and will end with my time in prison.”

Hugh Hefner’s Playboy lifestyle is set to hit the big screen. The film, to carry the title of his magazine, will be directed by Brett Ratner. The film will be produced for Universal Pictures by Brian Grazer, who won the best picture Oscar in 2002 for ‘A Beautiful Mind.’ Hefner sold the rights to his story to Grazer several years ago. He approved the film project last week.”Hef came from a puritanical upbringing and reinvented himself to be the godfather of the sexual revolution,” Ratner told Daily Variety, which reported the deal.”He also used his magazine to advocate civil rights and free speech, and put James Brown on his show ‘Playboy After Dark’ when they didn’t put black performers on national television,” Ratner said.”He broke all kinds of taboos, especially in sexuality. I want to show it all, from the First Amendment struggles to his first orgy to the stroke in the 1980s that almost killed him.”

Lohan has been speaking about the role, which has left Nicks bemused, because she knows nothing about it. She says, “Lindsay Lohan thinks she is going to play me but what the hell movie does she think she’s talking about?”"There is no book, there is no screenplay, there is no movie. There is never going to be a movie made without me, because it’s never going to be the story of me.”"Even though a lot has been written about me, the fact is nobody actually has a clue to what my life was really like. Pleshette Dies - 22 views

Suzanne Pleshette, the husky-voiced star best known for her role as Bob Newhart’s sardonic wife on television’s long-running “The Bob Newhart Show,” has died at age 70. Pleshette, whose career included roles in such films as Hitchcock’s “The Birds” and in Broadway plays including “The Miracle Worker,” died of respiratory failure at her Los Angeles home, said her attorney Robert Finkelstein. Pleshette underwent chemotherapy for lung cancer in 2006. “The Bob Newhart Show,” a hit throughout its six-year run, starred comedian Newhart as a Chicago psychiatrist surrounded by eccentric patients. Pleshette provided the voice of reason. Born Jan. 31, 1937, in New York City, Pleshette began her career as a stage actress after attending the city’s High School of the Performing Arts and studying at its Neighborhood Playhouse. She was often picked for roles because of her beauty and her throaty voice. She met her future husband, Tom Poston, when they appeared together in the 1959 Broadway comedy “The Golden Fleecing,” but didn’t marry him until more than 40 years later. Although the two had a brief romance, they went on to marry others. By 2000 both were widowed and they got back together, marrying the following year. Among her other Broadway roles was replacing Anne Bancroft in “The Miracle Worker,” the 1959 drama about Helen Keller, in New York and on the road. She had launched her film career with Jerry Lewis in 1958 in “The Geisha Boy.” She went on to appear in numerous television shows, including “Have Gun, Will Travel,” “Alfred Hitchcock Presents,” “Playhouse 90″ and “Naked City.” By the early 1960s, Pleshette attracted a teenage following with her youthful roles. She married fellow teen favorite Troy Donahue, her co-star in “Rome Adventure,” in 1964 but the marriage lasted less than a year. She was married to Texas oilman Tim Gallagher from 1968 until his death in 2000. Pleshette appeared in such films as Hitchcock’s “The Birds” and comedies “The Ugly Dachshund,” ”Blackbeard’s Ghost.” Over the years, she also had a busy career in TV movies, including playing the title role in 1990’s “Leona Helmsley, the Queen of Mean.” She also appeared in several episodes of the TV sitcoms “Will & Grace.” In a 1999 interview, Pleshette observed that being an actress was more important than being a star. “I’m an actress, and that’s why I’m still here,” she said. “Anybody who has the illusion that you can have a career as long as I have and be a star is kidding themselves.”

Britney Spears was taken from her home by ambulance early Thursday and escorted to the hospital by more than a dozen police officers in cars, on motorcycles and in helicopters. A Los Angeles police officer said Spears was being taken to the hospital to “get help.” Unidentified authorities said Spears was being placed on a “mental evaluation hold.” There were reports that her psychiatrist felt Spears, who is followed night and day by paparazzi, was a danger to herself because of reckless driving and a recent deterioration in her behavior. Spears was taken to UCLA Medical Center, where her mother, Lynne, was seen leaving its psychiatric hospital at about 5:30 a.m. The source close to Spears said she went willingly to the hospital and is “comfortable” about receiving medical care. “She’ll be in there for at least 72 hours getting evaluated. She might even stay longer,” the source claimed. “She’s more comfortable this time. She came into the waiting area, had a cigarette, made a joke about being there again. But who knows what will happen. All we can hope for is that she gets better.” A plan was reportedly in place in the event Spears needed medical attention.”Something like this has been in the works since the (last trip to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center). She has been seeing her psychiatrist every day,” the source said. “No one thought this would happen this soon, but it was clear if she stayed up for more than three days she’d have to get sent for help, since that could cause real damage. The last time she slept was Saturday.” The source also said that the arrangement to get Spears help worked out just as planned. “The motorcade and everything was planned, it was already in the works to have them block off the road and airspace. It worked out perfectly.”

Britney Spears got her stay in a psychiatric ward extended further as doctors decided to keep her hospitalized an additional 14 days. Spears was to be released from UCLA Medical Center’s psychiatric hospital, but doctors and a medical officer at the ward determined that she should remain, said the spokesman. Spears was committed for a 72-hour hold for evaluation. Paramedics, flanked by a police escort of about a dozen officers on motorcycles, in cars and a helicopter, took Spears from her home to the psychiatric hospital before dawn. To extend her stay, hospital staff members cited a section in the state law that allows patients to be retained for medical treatment if they are found to be gravely disabled or a danger to themselves or others.

Ledger Returns Home - 27 views

Heath Ledger’s family evaded scores of photographers as they returned to Perth with his body following his death in a Manhattan apartment last month. Several security guards and police officers watched as Ledger’s father, Kim, and several other relatives emerged from their plane after other passengers had disembarked. The entourage quickly entered an elevator in the airport terminal. Local media reported family members were driven across the tarmac and out of the airport, evading the press that had gathered in the arrival hall. Mara Buxbaum, Ledger’s publicist, has said the family wants to keep funeral arrangements private, and Michelle Williams, the mother of his 2-year-old daughter, has requested privacy for those in mourning. The family will reportedly hold a private ceremony and either bury Ledger’s remains or have them cremated and interred at the family’s plot at a cemetery in Perth, where his two grandparents lie. Ledger, who was nominated for an Oscar for his role in “Brokeback Mountain,” died in his New York City apartment Jan. 22. He was 28. Authorities suspect a drug overdose, but toxicology tests are still pending. Police said several prescription drugs were found in the apartment where his body was found. As Ledger’s hometown prepared for his funeral, residents expressed sadness at his sudden death, and outrage at rumors that he was a drug user.Ledger was a source of pride for Perth, a metropolis of some 1.3 million people that lies on the edge of Australia’s vast Outback and is thousands of miles from the nearest major city.”It’s probably the biggest news we’ve had in Perth in a long time,” said Shannon Harvey, film critic at The Sunday Times. “He’s probably the highest-profile star who’s ever come out of Perth.”

Spears Released - 28 views

Britney Spears was released from a psychiatric ward at the UCLA Medical Center after nearly a week of treatment. It was unclear where she was going, but sources said she might head to one of her homes before seeking additional treatment. Unlike the spectacle surrounding her trip to the Westwood medical facility last week, she slipped out with relatively little fanfare. A private security detail escorted her in contrast to last week when more than a dozen Los Angeles police officers escorted Spears to the hospital via motorcade. Her release comes after Spears’ mother, in court documents, said her daughter’s self-described friend and manager, Sam Lutfi, exerted near-total control over her, cutting her phone lines, taking away her cellphone chargers, disabling her vehicles and grinding up pills to place in her food. Spears’ mother made the allegations in a request for a restraining order against Lutfi. The restraining order, approved bars Lutfi from coming within 250 yards of Spears.Spears’father and an attorney have been granted temporary conservatorship over Spears and her estate. According to sources, a grand theft report was filed by Spears’ father, Jamie Spears, after the she was taken to the UCLA hospital last week. The grand theft report alleges that paintings, jewelry and other valuables were taken from his daughter’s Coldwater Canyon home. “A limited number of people had access to the home in that period,” the source said.

Heath Ledger died of an accidental overdose of painkillers, sleeping pills, anti-anxiety medication and other prescription drugs, the New York City medical examiner said. “The cause of death was acute intoxication by the combined effects of oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam and doxylamine,” spokeswoman Ellen Borakove said in a statement. The medical examiner’s office only provided generic names, so it is unknown whether he took generic or brand-name drugs. Police had said they found six types of prescription drugs, including sleeping pills and anti-anxiety medication, in Ledger’s apartment. Borakove wouldn’t say what concentrations of each drug were found in Ledger’s blood, or whether one drug played a greater part than another in causing his death.”What youre looking at here is the cumulative effects of these medications together,” she said. The ruling comes two weeks after Ledger was found dead in the bed of his SoHo apartment. Ledger’s family returned to their hometown of Perth, Australia to prepare for his funeral. In a statement released through Ledger’s publicist, his father, Kim, said Wednesday: “While no medications were taken in excess, we learned today the combination of doctor-prescribed drugs proved lethal for our boy. Heaths accidental death serves as a caution to the hidden dangers of combining prescription medication, even at low dosage.”

A Superior Court commissioner gave Britney Spears’ father the power to fire her business manager, according to court documents. Commissioner Reva Goetz also ordered Howard Grossman to turn over all documents, records and assets relating to Britney Spears to James Spears, who is the court-appointed conservator of his daughter and her estate. The order came the day after Goetz held an emergency closed-door hearing on a motion brought by Spears’ father and her lawyer Andrew Wallet, who is part of the conservatorship. Spears parents said they feared their daughters life was at risk after she was released early from a hospital psychiatric ward. Spears’ affairs were placed under a temporary conservatorship after she was taken to UCLA Medical Center on Jan. 31 under heavy police escort. Conservatorship are granted for people deemed unable to care for themselves or their affairs. The conservatorship lasts until Feb. 14. Spears was discharged from the hospital over the recommendation of her psychiatrist and against the wishes of her parents. Her parents said they were extremely disappointed she was released and they said they were deeply concerned about her safety and vulnerability and we believe her life is presently at risk. Spears slipped out of the hospital unnoticed by the pack of paparazzi that follow her every move in public, but they gave chase later when she left her home behind the wheel of her Mercedes-Benz and eventually showed up at the Beverly Hills Hotel.
